2018

Congratulations to the Ajax Spartans Minor Bantam team for reaching the finals of the 2018 Richmond Hill Baseball Tournament held July 6-8.  After semi-final defeats at the St. Thomas and Mississauga North tournaments earlier this year, the U14 boys pulled through to win some hardware.

The Spartans defeated the Whitby Chiefs and the Burlington Bulls but lost to the Sudbury Shamrocks during the preliminary round-robin.  Despite the one loss, the Spartans qualified for the semi-final against the tournament hosts.

Ajax jumped to an early semi-final lead and never looked back defeating the Richmond Hill Phoenix by a score of 8-5.

The final pitted Ajax against Sudbury once again.  Despite a great team effort, the defending OBA champions defeated your Spartans.

Ajax was proudly represented by the following players:  Marc Bafaro, Nolan Buckley, Brayden Burton, Liam Ford, Ryen Hann, Garrison Henry, Matthew Hoult, Jax Nyberg, Jonathan Snow, Owen St. Jean, Owen Steenson, and Braedon Van Wiechen.

Go Spartans!

Ajax Spartans Rookie T1 Make It to the Semi’s in Father’s Day Tournament

The Ajax Spartans Tier 1 Rookie team bats were as hot as the temperature at the Father’s day tournament in Aurora on June 15-17th.   Friday night the Spartans played Richmond Hill A team beating them 19-7 in 4 innings, with a great homerun by Mateo Valencio.  Saturday Spartans stayed strong defeating Clarington Orange 13-9 and the Aurora AA team 11-8.

Spartans earned a well deserved top seed going into the championship round, playing Whitby A in the quarter finals.  Bats were swinging, with two homeruns in a row by Reid Gauthier and Korbin Greaves in the 5thinning. Spartans advance to the semi-finals beating Whitby A 13-1.

In the semi finals Ajax fought hard in the heat against Newmarket AA.  They fell behind in the first inning, but slowly fought back to tie the game in the bottom of the 4th.  Spartans played well through 7 hot and hard innings, unfortunately losing to NewMarket.

Another well played tournament by Ajax rookie Tier 1 team which include: Calum Tessier, Reid Gautheir, Mekhi Dwyer, Eric Desaulniers, Luke Barbara, Kenady Guillot, Sawyer Falardeau, Korbin Greaves, Marcus Bennett, Austin Rixen, Seamus McKittrick, and Mateo Valencio.  Great coaching by Jamie Tessier, Mike Barbara, Jason McKittrick and David Falardeau.

The Ajax Spartans went 4-1 during the tournament, winning every game by mercy but fell short in the finals to the Aurora Jays AA Team and the extreme heat.

Great kids, great coaches and even better families!

The Ajax Spartans Rookie AA hosted their first Rookie tournament on May 26th and May 27th at the Ajax Sportsplex.  It was a fantastic weekend of baseball.  The sun stayed out for two beautiful days and each team fought hard to win the title of champion.

Ajax AA, Whitby AA, Stouffville and Wexford all advanced to the semi finals on Sunday morning.  Ajax and Whitby advanced to the finals with convincing wins.  Both sides played some great ball but a 7 run 1st inning proved to be the difference as Ajax won 12-5.

Ajax's defense was as hot as the outside temperature all weekend giving up just 17 runs in 5 games.   The boys bats were on fire as well scoring 74 runs in 5 games .  The boys demonstrated great sportsmanship and team spirit all weekend.

Ajax’s line up includes: Mekhi Dwyer, Calum Tessier, Austin Rixen, Korbin Greaves, Mateo Valencio, Luke Barbara, Eric Desaulniers, Marcus Bennett, Kenady Guillot, Reid Gautheir, Sawyer Falardeau,  and Seamus McKittrick.

A big thank you to all of the players and volunteers who helped make the weekend a great success!

The T1 Mosquito Spartans has a great early showing at their first tournament of the year in Richmond Hill finishing 2nd and outlasting a very talented field of competition.

They boys jumped out to an advantageous lead with a dominant win on Friday and and full array or pitchers to march out on Saturday. Mother Nature had other plans. With the two round robin games and potential QF games on Saturday cancelled, and a compressed schedule pushed to Sunday with only the pool winners advancing the boys played their hearts out.

With no games on Saturday everyone had their #1 pitchers ready to go. A low scoring affair where every run was fought for resulted in a 4-4 tie against a talented Vaughn team. The boys controlled their own destiny from here. A simple win against Mississauga North wouldn’t be enough. They had to hold them under 7 to win the tie breaker. Mississauga jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead after the first, but our boys regrouped and started the come back. By the end of the 4th our Spartans has a 9-5 lead and never looked back.

Some validating with convenor confirmed they’d earned a spot in the Semis against a Markham team that had been rolling up until that point. For their 3rd game in 6 hours the boys jumped on them early and never looked back winning 15-3 and punching a ticket to the finals vs the host team Richmond Hill Phoenix. The home team jumped out early with a 5-0 lead but our boys punched back and had the game back to within a run. Richmond Hill did a good job of holding our Spartans at bay and won a very well fought game.

The coaches and parents are incredibly proud of the boys. 4 games over 12 hours and no quit in them whatsoever. This team is coming together and is hungry for more!
